In Singapore, Areum had assured Andrei that he would get the full benefit of the critically needed AI for his research into Tanya’s illness. And the promise had been fulfilled.

The AI in the Taubits had accelerated his ability to test and design new genetic delivery vectors and payloads at an awesome rate. It was akin to having his own precision genetic-missile force. The AI simulated thousands of variations and predicted the most likely results in a tiny fraction of the time it normally would take. He sensed that he was closing in on a cure that would re-write Tanya’s genetic code, correct the abnormality, and save her life. This was the transformative genomic engineering miracle that he’d sought for years.

But he couldn’t breathe easily until Tanya actually received therapy and all signs of her illness disappeared. At his current rate of progress, he would soon have a test serum to administer to a macaque that also had Tanya’s leukemia. Unless something like the horrid BXG-43 test result occurred in the monkey, he would inject Tanya next.

Such an accelerated protocol would mean taking a real risk with her life, but at least she would have a chance. If he waited much longer, her fate was sealed.

Areum also assured him that he had only the export version of the AI; it would not enable Lab X to develop other weapons like BXG-43. He viewed this statement, however, with some skepticism, since he’d learned firsthand that what humankind could create, it could also corrupt. In fact, Andrei was already supposedly working on weapons projects for Lab X, and he had to figure out how to sabotage this research without arousing suspicion.

Maybe there was a way.

It all depended on the capabilities of the Taubits. But time was tight. He would need to chat with the doll Areum about it. Soon.
